"My name is Mosab Abu Toha and I’m a Palestinian poet and writer from Gaza.
Today morning with a heavy heart I received the news of the destruction of the Edward Said Public Library in Beit Lahia, north Gaza. The news and pictures came through just three days after Gazans were allowed to return to north Gaza.
Starting 2016, I started collecting books from around the world to build Gaza’s first English language library. With the endorsement and support of authors and intellectuals around the world, I raised the needed funds to open the library in the summer of 2017.

“Over the last 20 years, Israel has employed various bureaucratic measures to prevent Palestinians from accessing their private land. This is part of a broader effort to force Palestinians out of entire areas in the West Bank, while expanding settlements and the territories under Israeli control.”

“… The Israeli regime has increased its use of these systems since the heinous Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023. … the ‘coordination’ mechanism was halted and the possibility for farmers to ‘coordinate’ access to their land was almost entirely blocked. "Israel’s military said on Wednesday that it was pressing ahead with what it called a new counterterrorism operation in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and Palestinian officials said that at least 10 people had been killed."

"The Jenin battalion of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, an armed group loosely affiliated with Fatah, the political faction that controls the Palestinian Authority, said in a statement on social media that its fighters were engaged in “fierce clashes” with Israeli forces in several areas of Jenin and had detonated explosive devices."

"Thirty-three of these journalists, ... have since been released, while 42 remain under arrest.

"At least 10 of the journalists arrested by Israel are being held under administrative detention, a policy under which a military commander may detain an individual without charge, typically for six months, on the grounds of preventing them from committing a future offense. Detention can be extended an unlimited number of times."
