Did anyone else catch the run of a box moving calculator-based game on one of the midweek days between other runs (I think it was by adef)? What was the name of the game? I can't find it anywhere on the schedule and it's been driving me crazy.

I was trying to pin down what was off about the Super Metroid Rando race at the end of GDQ when I love the runners and the game and the rando and the racing format. Four players is a lot, sure, but I looked back at previous rando races and the deciding factor I think is the item tracker.

UI-wise I'm sure that's a bear to include when you've already got four screens, but the ability to at a glance see what everyone has is critical for a format where paths diverge and a human can't possibly keep track of what all four players are up to.

(Perhaps this has already been said, as it's days after the event, but my infant demanded I not watch anything live anymore and you gotta listen to the boss.)

EDIT: I made a mockup of just one way to do this, with corner arrows indicating who has what, forming a full square when everyone has the item. Something like this but way prettier could be implemented without any relevant footage being cut and without overwhelming the viewer.

I grew up reading and rereading all of the Redwall books, and was unreasonably excited to find out there was a game. It’s a small community but we’ve been making some serious headway, and I was able to take over a minute off of the years-long record tonight. This is my first speed game, and I feel amazing

If it was missed, DrMechaKitten donated $43,690 during the 96 Exit Race of Super Mario World, which is the single largest individual donation to date during a GDQ event.

Really blown away by the generosity of people, it's wonderful to see.

Feeling inspired to start running something, but I’m not sure what. I’d love to hear what everybody else is getting in to!

Definitely of the 2020s. I feel I can see the improvement of GDQ year after year after a particular low point. SGDQ 2023 I think it was, whichever was the one that ended at like 7am due to a Breath of the Wild incentive gigastall. But the overall vibes of the event and this subreddit on the final day compared to that one is night and day. Every run hit the mark that day.

I've been watching online since the beginning. My wife, my dad, my toddler and I all watch the event together and my wife and I take off work just to catch the whole thing. This most recent event really made me and my wife want to attend in person. For those who have attended, how much did it cost you? The hotel, the event, food, and whatever else. On top of that, is it a good idea to bring the whole family (60yo dad and 3yo toddler) to the event as well? My wife and I would love the event regardless, but I didnt know if there was stuff for retro people and stuff for toddlers to do. Really appreciate any information to help us decide how we should approach it. Thanks!

He is no longer listed on the GDQ staff page. I guess he wasn't at AGDQ. I knew he postponed his retirement for awhile but I thought he changed his mind and decided to stay indefinitely.

Welcome to the end of another gdq. The day where everyone flies out, the stage crew tears down, and everyone is thinking "I need to really learn [speedrun] for the next event"

So, as usual, this day is full of reflection. Therefore:

What did YOU like, not like, and believe is something gdq should work on for the future?

I also suggest to follow this thread if you do a marathon as well. It's important to grow and learn.

I also expect/desire full explanations. Don't just say "gdq is too woke" and leave it at that. Explain to me why you feel that way.

Also, I don't work for gdq. This for them to see and review through third party, and for those who do speedrun marathons what the general community believes.

So after an exhaustingly long week, we have concluded with a current total of over $2,556,305 Million raised in Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 (And still counting slightly).

With this, we conclude our 15th year of running this event!!!!!!

Link for finale current total call out

But with this years total, that means that Games Done Quick has now raised over 54 MILLION Dollars for charities across the globe since it started 15 years ago, with over 26 of those millions, for Prevent Cancer Foundation! <3

Congratulations to runners Andy (once again) Oatsngoats, Eddie and Imyt! - **Who closed the event with a great final run of the game

Super Metroid

In a Map Randomizer 4 way race with saving the animals and the less than 1 second between 1st and 2nd place spots!!!!**

  • Give it up for the entire GDQ staff!
  • Give it up to the sound and video techs!
  • Give it up to the runners and commentators of each game!
  • And of course, give it up to YOU! The watchers and donators.

Without YOU we wouldn't of raised the total we did!

Thank you!!!! <3

And a final thankyou to SENT! Who will be stepping down from being the prize wizard after all these years to step into his new role as the Director of Programming for GAMES DONE QUICK!!!

Congratulations Sent!!!!!!!!

Hi folks! Now that AGDQ 2025 is over, I'm here again creating this thread to ask you for your absolute must-watch runs for the event. In general I was able to watch most of the event during the day hours (in America), but missed most of the night runs (cause sleep). Still, I want to hear your opinions and recommendations!

Oh my side, I think there were a great number of amazing runs this edition. Particularly the music segments, like:

-Crazy taxi with a live band. One of my favorite runs of all time. Pure hype.

-Saxophone Elden Ring. Boss rush, hitless, with a sax. -New Super Mario Bros Wii with a piano. Self explanatory.

-Chunithm showcase. I don't think I've ever seen people so skilled at a rhythm game ever.

-Kaizo Mario Bros 3. Pure, unbelievable skill.

-Golf with your grandma. Hilarious run. Actually the whole awful block was great.

What do you guys think? :)

The glitches and skips were so satisfying in this game. Throw in Glubbers being so entertaining and charismatic, and the hype hitting incentives. Then you get another must watch this GDQ HOORAY!

Give it up for the runner ZFG1 and Couch Co: Adef, Vidya James, Runnerguy2489 and I can't forget the tagteam duo shoutout/donation reader' of Carty B & Melo Acevedo!

If you're a long time viewer of GDQ, ZFG1 isn't new. He's practically an icon and long term standing speedrunner of Zelda games and brings in such amazing commentary, explainations, quirky memes and just general all round banter.

(Seriously, Carty B and Melo please give yourself a clap and pat on the back for your amazing singing quirky readouts).

Mix that with a great knowledgable couch and hilarious readers, this run is 10/10.

Furthermore we hit 2 MILLION DOLLARS and over $250,000 RAISED DURING THIS RUN!! LET'S GO!!!

AND WE ALSO HIT THE OCARINA OF TIME GLITCH EXHIBITION RUN!!!!!! $350,000 RAISED!!!!!

Still a few more hours to go until the end of the marathon, keep it up all, and once again well done on the run!

I know I posted this before about the double host earlier this event.

I know it's something new they are testing, but I'll say it again, it's insanely good if done right. Gives the host someone to bounce off of back and fourth and makes it much more entertaining.

One of the best changes / tests this event.
