Talks called off due to regulatory and financial uncertainty around the deal and because parties were unable to agree on terms.

While they both need to figure out some way to sustain their businesses, I am glad this was not the solution they went with. I had a hard time believing that the Toronto Star would have been left alone indefinitely, maintaining their independence.
