These types have always been around. Decent odds he's already reading these comments and feeling chuffed that's he's gotten to you. It's exactly the sort of response they want. They love invoking emotional reactions in others.
What they hate is being ignored. That happens to them all the time in the real world. Online they have power. When you deny them that power, it brings home how significant they really are(n't).
Sadly, this will just drive them to go bother someone else. But that isn't your problem.
