Lemmy is a Reddit clone, Mastodon is a Twitter clone; these are very different types of post in terms of formatting and intended function and such. Honestly, i don't think they should be so connected.
When reading your title i thought you were talking about how different instances may not communicate, that one i would agree and i think it's a problem
Did you ever see the response I wrote for this from Mastodon? Did you notice this post was from Mastodon? https://furry.engineer/@l_b_i/113603311131102130 I mean you replied to my mastodon account on your lemmy account on a post that was made on mastodon and cross-posted to lemmy. With all this inter-connectivity that clearly shows the two services talk the same language, you can't direct message.
