The environmental impact is far worse by comparison, but no one gives a fuck about the environment so there's no point bringing that up.

I find the environment a much more convincing argument than pets. I’m curious exactly where it sits in comparison to other causes like beef, flights, and energy generation though.

I'm not sure how a food source, transportation, and a necessary utility can possibly be compared to brainless entertainment though.

Look, I eat a lot of beef and have flown more than my fair share already and probably will continue to. But it’s not like going vegetarian—or at least cutting your meat back to only chicken and fish—isn’t a perfectly reasonable option. And international flights might not be replaceable, but Brisbane–Sydney–Melbourne was the busiest air corridor in the world pre-COVID and could have easily been replaced by high speed rail—as could similarly popular routes in the US (and Europe largely already has). Ditto renewable electricity. I think it’s reasonable to compare the scale of each as one of many factors.
