If you have decided to make your New Year's resolution about fitness, this post is for you.

Dr. Mike just dropped a great video on how to succeed in getting and staying in shape instead of crashing and burning like most resolutioners in the gym this January

But shittydwarf, how does it all work? Where do I start? The fitness wiki got you bro.

Tldr: Get on a beginner lifting program, stay consistent, make small adjustments to your life for the first three months and then come back and we'll talk about doing more / getting completely yoked. Don't bite off more than you can chew, but do get active

I resolved to get back in shape last year after sitting on my ass for a good long while. Happy to say I've stuck to it and am in the best shape of my life at the moment (at least strength-wise; my cardio is still trash lol).

For anyone else looking to hit the weights, I started with a simple 5x5 workout. I didn't bother downloading any apps or anything; I just keep a simple .txt file on my PC tracking my progress. Personally I'm not a fan of how hard the Stronglifts website tries to sell users an app and spreadsheets and such, but their guides are useful.

And I love Dr. Mike's channel. He's been consistently helpful ever since I started hitting the weights again. Gives great advice in my experience; super knowledgeable guy.

I think 5x5 is a great way to start, gets you familiar with the compound lifts quickly and takes advantage of those amazing newb gains. And if you dig it after a few months you can switch over to a periodized program easily.

I've been doing a few cycles of tactical barbell and it has cardio/HIT built-in. I was tired of being embarrassed on hikes last summer with zero cardio, would definitely recommend!
