I think this is about depression. Replace "turned into a deer" with feeling depressed and the comic works with no other change.

That’s a good guess, and I just want to add that the tumblr post where I stole this comic from used the tags “neurodivergent” and “autism”.
Except for the second-to-last panel. Why would their partner say that "it's nice" that they're depressed? Maybe it somethin they're thinking but (if it is) it's shown in a confusing/misleading way.
I think, "It's nice." Is a continuation of the narration. "All my friends are there.... It's nice."
There are 2 frames in the middle and the colour of the text changes so, if that's the case, it's kinda confusing.
It is a little confusing, but all the other dialogue is in speech bubbles. 🤷♂️
That's the narrator saying the party is nice. No speech bubble.
