Unfortunately, a lot of fire and EMTs are close with cops. They often work together in stressful situations, and they bond over their shared trauma of seeing fucked up tragedy. Even though they provide fundamentally different services, I'd avoid insulting cops in front of them.
Fun fact Firefighters lobby heavily for large roads (in the US) that contribute to increased traffic accidents...that they respond to. It's the biggest part of their job.
It's just job security.
