Ebikes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, longboards, eboards, motorcycles, skates, unicycles, heelies, or an office chair: Whatever floats your goat, this is all things micromobility!

"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.

micromobility is seen as a potential solution to moving people more efficiently around cities"

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

This is one of those funny debates that have layers.

Grant that there are legitimate considerations that bicycle riders have about electric bicycles on trails. Similar concerns, perhaps, to the concerns raised about allowing gas motorized bikes in these trails.

Horse riders have been making the same complaints about bicycles for decades: that bicycles increase rutting, erosion, and that they're dangerous for people they share the trail with. Mountain bikes in particular have been a target of these complaints because they often ride on trails that normal bicyclists (but not horse riders) would avoid.

And, in turn, horse riders sometimes get push-back from pedestrians, who complain about manure and safety.

There's always someone bitching (justifiably or not) about someone else's conveyance. Motorcyclists are universally loathed, but they're not much worse than electric trail bikes, which are not much worse than electric mountain bikes, which are not much worse than mountain bikes... it really seems to boil down only to whether or not it's your hobby.

Equestrians really should have to use those horse poop bags. Seriously--we have to clean up a small dog poop and they don't have to clean up a gigantic pile of horse shit?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (3 children)

To be fair, poop from herbivores isn't as much of a health issue as poop from omnivores and carnivores. And it also doesn't smell as bad, IMO.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sure, but do you want to ride through it or step in it? Either way, you're dealing with shit. Everyone should have to clean up after themselves. Even humans are supposed to pack out their own shit when they go hiking or camping.

Out the three options mentioned so far, horse would bother me the least. Depending on the situation it might not bother me at all, honestly.

You city folk are too sensitive.

You're asking me if I want to step in horse poop? Sorry, I thought that was rhetorical. Of course not, but as I just explained, I also don't find it offensive. It's just not a big deal, unless I'm wearing nice shoes and pants.

Huge difference in time to fall apart/be absorbed into the earth.

And it also doesn’t smell as bad, IMO

good for you, keep it to yourself.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What? Most people seem to agree that horse poop isn't nearly as offensive as dog. In my experience, the only people who disagree are from the suburbs and have never been around horses or horse poop.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

horse shit and cow shit do smell. fuck you, I grew up around stockyards, acting like it doesn't smell is ridiculous.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I never said it doesn't smell. I said the smell isn't offensive.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not as offensive, but it is still offensive.

I don't think having to navigate shit on a trail is subjective. Nobody wants to do it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

This is a great example of what OP was describing in their last paragraph:

There's always someone bitching (justifiably or not) about someone else's conveyance. Motorcyclists are universally loathed, but they're not much worse than electric trail bikes, which are not much worse than electric mountain bikes, which are not much worse than mountain bikes... it really seems to boil down only to whether or not it's your hobby.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago

you're clearly decided on it. trust me, some other people find it unpleasant.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I said the smell isn’t offensive.

just say you like the smell of horse shit mate.

you do you, but don't try to sell me a load of BULLSHIT that horse shit doesn't smell. lol.

Then you try to front like "well if you EVER SMELLED it you'd find it lovely"

that's the shit that really sticks out. That's some goofy ass garbage.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I honestly never realized people felt this strongly about literal horse shit. Not just you, but other commenters too. Blows my mind.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Blows my mind.

dunno what to say about people finding the smell of shit unpleasant. you realize this was like, a big deal, about a 120 years ago when cars became a thing right? People were happy to no longer have to dodge turds in the streets?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You come across as really angry and bitter. Did someone make you eat horseshit as a kid? 😂

I like a faint smell of horse or cowshit, it's very countryside

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

haha I really like horses, I'm just not so delusional that I think people in general like the smell of horse shit. or anything's shit. Have you ever been in a stable?

I mean I think it's pretty bold on your part to assume the masses like the smell of shit. Even horse shit, which is I guess better than human shit sure, but damn. And cow shit too.

Angry and bitter because I don't huff cow chips. wow. People on the internet are hilarious.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah I see! So angry you didn't notice the username was different!

I'm off to snort a line of dried pigshit just to irk you

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

no I noticed you're a different shitfan than the last shitfan.

you guys go to a club to huff the stuff huh? good you have a hobby I guess. it doesn't irk me, I'm glad you have something in your life besides advocating for the smell of horse shit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Sounds like you need to go touch some grass.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

They are, they're VERY and annoyingly loud. All other options are almost silent.
