Nothing beats kaiji in it's genre but Akagi from the same mangaka may interest you
Came here to suggest Akagi, it might also help to play a little Mahjong Soul to understand riichi mahjong. It's not essential, but rewatching Akagi after learning how to play was an enhanced experience.

Akagi is a mahjong manga. It assumes you know mahjong from the beginning. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really like the game. I barely made it 6 pages into the manga after someone gifted me a volume for Japanese practice.
