Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Unfortunately, though, almost three years on, McDonald has received a takedown notice from Sony, meaning bye-bye 60fps patch. "On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps," McDonald shared on Twitter. "Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I've now done so."

McDonald explained in a later tweet that the patch that Sony requested to be removed as the "platform-agnostic version of the patch. It was the version used on PS4, PS5, and the PC emulator. It doesn’t contain any copyright infringing content, it is a 'patcher.'" But, he noted that he's not interested in "arguing my right to distribute" the patch, even if he says he's "legally protected" if he chose to re-post it.

They had no excuse to take this down, this one dude just couldn't afford to fight. Have to hope people making a popular emulator are more prepared to fight, since they also aren't doing anything wrong.

It's not like some of the recent cases of emulators getting taken down where they also were doing actually wrong things on the side as well.
