Just a little bit of wine will work in many cases. The issue is usually an overactive microbe and ideal fermentation conditions for runaway conversion of sugar. A good wash of alcohol can slow them down or kill off a large fraction without totally destroying most of your stomach microbiome.
I used to use Tums to boost Adderall uptake, but it has negative effects that last for a few days while the body recovers to homeostasis. When I started riding a bicycle everywhere it became a big deal because I needed the calories that my body wasn't able to absorb well after.
Of all things, in the New Testament, there is a scripture where Paul tells Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach problems; in 2nd Corinthians IIRC. That is probably one of the only passages I still find half useful.
Microbes turn sugar into acid?
Yes. This is why sugar rots your teeth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tooth_decay
