Do people actually eat that many eggs???? Its wild that it's in the news so much. Why don't they just buy cheaper food until the prices go down?

They're a quick to prepare, tasty, nutritious and, normally, very cheap source of protein that's also very useful in baking. People will adjust their egg consumption accordingly, but there's some understandable lag time. Habits take time to change.

They're also a staple food, so it's understandable that they're often reported on and used as a sort of barometer for inflation, since they're typically so cheap.

For reference, we go through roughly a dozen eggs a week between two people
