Gaines County, the epicenter, has seen vaccine exemption rates more than double over the past decade. Two measles-related deaths have been reported in the U.S., including one confirmed fatality in Texas.

The CDC has identified cases in 12 states and continues urging vaccinations.

Measles, highly contagious, was declared eliminated in 2000, but declining vaccination rates have contributed to its resurgence.
