I can usually find inserts that I can 3D print at home. For the more popular games, it's pretty much guaranteed that some wonderful person has already designed a really good set of inserts and shared the files for free.
I wish I had a 3D printer that could do multicoloured prints though, it would be very nice to replace some cardboard tokens with weighted plastic tokens. Action tokens in Thorgal are weighted like that, and they feel extremely satisfying to use.
If you don't mind an embossed design, a color change is very possible in any 3D printer, as long as the part that needs to be a different color is a little taller than the rest.
