Primaries will never happen during a party's incumbency.
We need to fix the FPTP by replacing it with Ranked Choice, and also get rid of the electoral college. Then, party primaries become irrevalent, since the spoiler effect is gone. I could just vote for an independent Bernie or AOC and skip the middleman (the democratic party)
FYI, the GOP has literally made RCV illegal in some states they control.
