As much as I despise the Chinese government and its policies, it does have one thing going for it:
We can do a complete 180 every 4 years, whereas they have a dictator. That stability must be looking pretty appealing these days.
You have a dictatorship; it's called a dictatorship of capitalists. China's state, even after Deng's reforms, has managed to stave off complete takeover by capitalists.
Your elections don't matter much; it'll always slide to the right so long as capitalists control the state.
The dictator thing doesn't mean much - the Chinese dictator seems to have the best interest of China, it's economy and it's people at the top of his priorities as far as I can tell, whereas the US's wanna be dictator cares about nothing but to enrich himself and his rich friends - not the long term success of the US or it's citizens.
I would happily resurrect Augustus and have his as the dictator of the US - but the problem with dictators isn't exactly the fact it's a dictator (assuming it's not a bad one), it's more of the fact that succession doesn't really work and you never know what you get next.
After Augustus, Rome had to deal with Tiberius and Caligula, then after Cladius, Rome had to deal with Nero. And so on and so on.
