Fair enough. I would say the main problem caused by AGB's hands-off moderation isn't offensive questions but rather the repetitive searchable questions, fake stories and shit-stirring threads like "should I be forced to date someone I don't like", which cause a lot of fighting but don't contribute to any meaningful discussion. But I think it can be solved with a "frequently asked questions, don't create a new thread about this" rule, even though that wouldn't be completely self-moderating.
Lemmy as a social network is quite a small community. I expect most of the current users to be quite proficient at using a link aggregator such as Lemmy. Unless all you can see is the exact same questions over and over, I'd stick with downvoting.
Now that you mention it, the most cancerous posters on r/AGB almost always have post histories on porn subs only, so by not having porn on the instance, these users will exclude themselves. Problem solved!
Though I wonder how many other gay and bi men will choose to migrate to Lemmy. I rarely see gay guys who are interested in tech and privacy so the odds are that they will just keep using Reddit no matter how bad it gets. So it's likely that this community won't become active enough to attract trolls and spammers.
I think it really depends on the generation; the older generation in general isn't very tech-savvy. But I know quite a lot of tech-savvy gay and bi young adults.
