If I remember correctly, Nightdive(?) completed remasters of both NOLF games and was ready to release them as soon as the rights issues were sorted out. Due to Monolith having changed ownership multiple times, no one was sure if the rights to the series belonged to Activision, Fox, or Warner Brothers. From what I recall, Nightdive's quest to find who owned the franchise eventually led them to Fox, who told them that the potential profits from the re-releases would not be worth the hassle of digging through paperwork to find out if they had any claim to the rights. They then told Nightdive they could not go forward with releasing the games because they would raise a legal stink on the off-chance they ever found out they DID.
Copyrights are bullshit, just pirate everything
I own the hard copy, it came with the OG soundtrack. Yeah games did that 20ought years ago. I mean i might not be a billion dollar but FOX owns rights and yadda yadda Cate Archer yadda Archer season how many? Make it work man! I'm sure some millions would do it. The voice acting and music is already great. Just updatr the visuals or make a sequel if you want to do ground up and port the OG as bonus content. I'm sure its profitable "but not as much" so what profit is profit. Why let the IP DIE?
But in that spirit if they want to just "let it go" make it public domain and yo ho yo a pirate's life for me!
