Reddit spent many years establishing relatively consistent modding for the big subreddits, and the big subreddits were far bigger than the Fediverse equivalents are yet. It just takes time to sort out.
I hope that's what's happening. It will be a huge fail if this place turns into the cesspool Reddit was/is.
Fortunately there are multiple instances, so multiple worldnews communities, none of which is the "official" one. If this one turns into a cesspool then oh well, switch to one of the others as your main source of news.
This kind of thing festers like a disease and before we know it the entire community is full of Kremlin trolls, bigots and dangerous conspiracy theorists. Seen quite a few instances like this recently. I hate it.
IIRC kbin allows users to ban instances, so even if those don't defederate they can be made to "go away" for individual users. Maybe Lemmy will get that ability too, it seems like a good idea.
It's a necessity, unfortunately.
