I got an amazing website you should check out: http://brick4.com/

It's mostly in Chinese so you'll need to autotranslate but you can get lego sets at a fraction of the cost of the "real" ones.

I had heard bad things about offbrand legos, but I've never given them a fair shake. On the off chance I want a kit, I currently do the bricklinked technique. Appreciate the resources 👍

Chinese knockoffs used to be terrible back in the day. But people kept buying them, so the manufacturers got better to compete
