I understand the idea here but I recently learned TV's use more energy each year compared to crypto mining in the US. Also, consider the energy used by MasterCard and Visa, it's massive and actually would be reduced if done on the blockchain. Just some food for thought.

Okay yes but consider that exponentially more people use those services than people do crypto. It's the energy cost ratio that matters, not the total.

The data in that study was provided by the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, which used "estimates" of energy consumption that may be biased towards alternative currencies
