How to automatically install updates? (lemmy.ml)

Every day I get those fucking notifications and it drives me crazy

I need to click on them, then click on install now I know its not super much work, but it really makes me so mad, idk why.

How to make windows to just install those updates automatically?

That is my update policy, changed some stuff in O&O Shutup: but never something like don't install automatically, so idk where to change that first policy

All I'm asking is to not suddenly restart the PC while i might be working.

If it's still relevant, maybe this will work:

  1. Open gpedit (if you're on Windows Home you can put gpedit on the system through CMD - scroll to the "Run Command Prompt" section)
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
  3. In the "Legacy Policies" folder:
  • Enable "No auto-restart..."
  • (that folder also has a policy to "Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation" but apparently it doesn't do anything according to Microsoft)
  1. In the "Manage end user experience" folder:
  • Disable "Always automatically restart.."
  • Enable "Configure Automatic Updates" and select "4 - Auto download and schedule the install", then select "Every Day" and choose an hour for the installation
  • Enable "Display options..." and select "2 - Disable all notifications..."
  • Enable "Turn off auto-restart..." and set the active hours when you don't want it to restart

edit: adding that you can also use a program like WAU Manager to automatically download and install the updates in a specific time (screenshot for the settings, click on Save and Apply after choosing the settings)

oh wow, thank you so much!! 🙏i changed it in gpedit, never heard of that before, hope i did everything right.

btw to make the changes apply you need to restart your PC or run CMD as an admin and run gpupdate /force
