Ive never understood that argument. Androids are just as simple or complex as you make them

Degoogled phone running GrapheneOS is the way to go

I often have google services break. They tend to start working again after a while. Something gets updated for fixed. For calls, text, and web browsing it's great. Google maps works sometimes, not all the time. My banking app stopped working but the web app works. Sticking mostly to fdroid apps works fine.
