It seems like certain communities are active on Matrix, but I kind of share the same experience for topics that interest me... much more activity on IRC or XMPP. Although quite a lot of people seem to be using IRC through Matrix.

Exactly what I am talking about, only select communities are. Not largely interests to say the least. like for instance there even only like a few "gaming" type ones on there and I already tried the tip of the iceberg ones.
