Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.
In this community everyone is welcome to post links and discuss topics related to privacy.
Some Rules
- Posting a link to a website containing tracking isn't great, if contents of the website are behind a paywall maybe copy them into the post
- Don't promote proprietary software
- Try to keep things on topic
- If you have a question, please try searching for previous discussions, maybe it has already been answered

I agree the only thing with Signal is it needs a phone number, but the protocol that is solid. Its more practical to have people switch to signal from whatsapp in my opinion
Signal is working on a solution for that, I believe, I read something about Usernames, but I can be wrong...
There is getsession.org it's signal crypto but decentralized and whitout phone number
But element.io (matrix) is really powerfull with some bridge to other chat

Is the only advantage that you don't need a phone number? If so, how does it compare against Wire (which is IMO a nearly perfect solution)
Delta Chat is an EMail client with steroids that aims to build a specification (Chat over IMAP) to adapt the infraestructure even more.

Do all the email servers have to make changes to support it? Dies the IMAP standard have to change to support it?
Great option. Session is even more private, but a bit laggy. What's missing is end-to-end encrypted voip.
