The project looks interesting but this part about being builtnonbtrust doesn't sound safe. Not like I know anything about how github works.

Well the reason is simple, mbin is a fork of kbin. Kbin was not built on trust and development stagnated. Due to the fact nobody was really allowed to make big changes.
