What is libre culture?

Libre culture is all about empowering people. While the general philosophy stems greatly from the free software movement, libre culture is much broader and encompasses other aspects of culture such as music, movies, food, technology, etc.

Some beliefs include but aren't limited to:

Rules

I've looked into the ways other forums handle rules, and I've distilled their policies down into two simple ideas.

Libre culture is a very very broad topic, and while it's perfectly okay for a conversation to stray, I do ask that we keep things generally on topic.

Indeed. People have been complaining about The GIMP name for years, and several designers and artist have been reluctant about using it. I am glad that Glimpse made a difference in the wider adoption of open source software usage.

Do you have any source for this? Not that I don't believe you but I think you are way over exaggerating this.

This is based on comments in forum posts I've read over the years. And https://glimpse-editor.github.io/about/#what-is-glimpse-image-editor "This project was originally started due to ... and whether it is still appropriate to call a 25 year old software program “the Gimp” as a joke."

I don't mean to come off as rude but it seems that you don't have any tangible evidence that GIMP is a problematic name, right?

As for my anecdotes, just by looking at these drama threads you can see that big majority of people didn't even know the alternative definition of gimp. The chances that someone knew the definition and stopped using the program because of it seem to be astronomically low, is it not?

It's an embarrassing name to say to people. I don't know what you'd expect other than anecdotes.

Well, I simply have not bookmarked the forum posts from years ago, but see here : https://www.theregister.com/2019/08/28/gimp_open_source_image_editor_forked_to_fix_problematic_name/ - The proposal was supported by another developer, Leonora Tindall, who noted that "I have, on two occasions now, recommended this program to photography and graphic design educators (as an alternative to Photoshop) who told me that they considered it and found it good as software but weren't permitted by their institution to use it in the classroom because of the name."
