It can not be handwaved away. How much do for example evangelists convince you that fossils are artificial and don't support evolution theory?
Because creationist theory is based on unprovable spiritual stuff. It's much easier to believe "oh that's just western propaganda" than it is to believe "yes the omniscient sky dude put these fake bones here on purpose to test our loyalty to him"
