This is very doable for anyone to make, as lemmy already has a websocket API. There's also a chat mode, even in threads here, to make every comment flat, rather than shown in a tree, but of course this kind of UI still feels more long form than real chat apps made for that purpose. n

it doesn't have to be flat, we can keep hierarchies in group chats
