Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I have yet to top off the 16gb in my school laptop. I use six virtual desktops in kde each set up for one class, and often each will have 2-3 firefox tabs open and different programs(nothing heavy, discord, Kate,Gimp, texmaker, logseq, vscodium, etc)
That being said, if someone offered me an upgrade to 32 I'd take it. But yeah, I don't see what the fuss is about. Even my gaming rig did fine with 16gb. I got a 'free' upgrade to 32 when I bought something else a while ago.
