Probably for the best tbh as the engineer scheduled for on call this yr has been off sick and put in another line means I get the joy of on call instead of him.

I used to be a ssre (snr site reliability engineer) but then my gaffer got a promotion and in his sick final act he made me replace him

Aye. The very 1st task I got to do as gaffer was promote my replacement and create an equivalent role to that in my over seas team. That part felt nice I will admit

Normal rates plus a £500 bonus

That is decent at least, as a programmer I strive to ensure zero on-call required
There's been 1 call on Xmas day and that was about 10 or 11 yrs ago. So touch wood that trend continues
