Scottish people out here talking shit about British folks, yet in 2014 they voted against being an independent nation.

One, they're talking about English "people," not British people.

Genuinely curious about this, do northern English people from say York get the same shit from Scottish people that say a Londoner or someone from the south would?

Barely, and the referendum would've gone the other way any time after 2016.
Polls show independence was briefly in the lead for a few months of 2020, but has remained consistently behind otherwise since 2014
