If whatsapp is the only reason to not choose a linux mobile, here you are an workarround/option.

The fee saves a person from having to set up a hs and bridges themself it seems. But a telegram and discord bridge are very easy to set up already (https://www.t2host.io/discord/), so people will probably use it for the other bridges.

Well I'm not paying them 10 bucks a month for a matrix server.

Pay me 5 bucks a month and I'll run one for you.

I don't think so... Maintain a server is not payed with 60$ yearly ;-)
