I mean, not everyone has 10 fingers, so the average is slightly less than 10. Coerce to an integer and you get 9.
But some people have more than 5 fingers per hand (Polydactyly, afaik the most per hand was 8) so it balances out. /s
Yeah but then Pterodactyls bring that number back down again
