I agree with a more minimalist style, in small screens and from far away it'll be blurry and just a mess. Maybe expand the idea and use it for a banner or something, maybe having a different character for each console.
Anyway, I modified the image. Changed Marco with Nadia so there's also a girl in the picture and added Megaman (I can't believe I forgotten him with the first version).

@therealcaptncrunch67 These are good suggestions, Mega Man (how could you?! ๐) and Nadia. I am also worried about smaller sizes, and is the reason why I did vector graphics instead (these are converted from bitmap to vector format), so it is scalable to any size. But then it lacks complexity like your image has. So it is a tradeoff.
The main idea is to have a recognizable icon, with clear coloring and shapes (well my initial suggestion of Game Boy doesn't fit that at all). I got annoyed in the list of magazines that some do not have an icon and some of the existing ones also are not good for icon size.
But we (and with we, I mean the Owner of this magazine) could try different icons to see how its working in real world. Or we try them in a test magazine.
