They could say for unintentional handballs or handballs which are not DGSO that it is an indirect free kick in the box. Less punishing but still a handball

What has the Newcastle game to do with more lenient handball rules? It wasn't even a handball with the current rules to begin with.

The game needs clear and strict rules, not more ambiguity.

Exactly. They simply got it wrong. VAR wrongly decided to step in and gave the ref terrible loaded footage to work with. Ref rushed it at the screen and should have asked for more angles. They let the pressure from PSG get to them, which was pathetic given that he’s allegedly the best ref in the world.

The rules are already supposed to be lenient, they just didn't follow them and were harsh anyway
