Bill Haley And His Comets put the first Rock and Roll song on the UK singles chart with "Rock Around The Clock", which would later peak at number 4.

Also the date in 1977 when Elvis Costello & the Attractions appear on 'Saturday Night =Live=' in place of the Sex Pistols — who can't get a visa to enter the US.

After a few seconds he quits playing 'Less Than Zero' and switches to 'Radio Radio' ... and is banned from SNL for 12 years.

Lets not forget, D avid Bowie releases his fourth studio album, "Hunky Dory", which would make it to #3 on the UK Official Album Chart, but miss the Billboard 200. The first single from the LP, "Changes", would fail to chart in the UK and only reached #66 on the Hot 100

Amazing how many -big- songs fail to make the charts right away. (Noted for Aerosmith's Dream On.) The UK has usually been -much- faster at 'getting it'. (Including Bill Haley, where he had a -huuuge- fanbase.)
