I want to put a cross stitch pattern on soft plastic. My plan is to just drill a bunch of tiny holes in it to make it sort of like aida cloth, but I wondered if anyone else here has tried this before or has any tips?

They make a plastic mesh called granny grating for this I think.

I already have the parts I want to use, but something like this would definitely help me transfer the pattern!

Yeah you can definitely do this! There are lots of kits on Etsy that are exactly like this in wood or plastic. Just make sure the holes are smooth and won’t catch the threads and damage them.

I was thinking I might taper the holes so there aren't any sharp edges
