Our upstairs living room is where we watch movies and currently have a completely mismatched old 3.1 setup up there. I upgraded the TV fairly recently...it's a 77" Sony A80J OLED. Current receiver is a Denon AVRS660H and is only 5.2. I'm wanting to update to a 5.2.4 setup. I've mostly decided on the Denon 3800H receiver and still in the process of deciding on speakers. I do not currently have any rear speakers at all...or any height speakers. I have also mostly decided to go with height speakers as opposed to more "traditional" in ceiling ATMOS speakers. I have attached pics of the room. Ignore the clutter...this is a kids/family room so naturally there is stuff everywhere. I'm planning on pulling the couch out from that back wall about 1 foot. There should be plenty of room to pull it out a foot. After pulling the couch out..I have marked where I think the speakers will go. I will either use stands or otherwise do brackets attached to the wall. For the rear heights, I would have to do ceiling mounted and these are kinda my biggest question due to the weird layout of the room. Ceiling mounted is not an issue as I have easy access to the attic space above. I just don't know if they will be too far forward or not. The biggest issue with this funky layout is that the left rear height could be mounted to the top of the wall but the right rear height has no wall and would have to be mounted to the ceiling. I'm thinking I'll have to use some type of articulating bracket in order to attempt to match them.

For the front heights, I will put them either wall mount or ceiling mount at these positions depending on what speakers I choose. The area to the right of this pic is open to the first floor, so there's no walls on this side at all.

For the LCR, I will most likely go with some bookshelf speakers sitting on either side of the long console, basically where the current speakers are now. I'm slightly limited on the center speaker size but it can up to about 8.1" tall and not cover any of the bottom of the screen.
