All things green, outdoors, and nature-y. Whether it's animals in their natural habitat, hiking trails and mountains, or planting a little garden for yourself (and everything in between), you can talk about it here.

See also our Environment community, which is focused on weather, climate, climate change, and stuff like that.

(It's not mandatory, but we also encourage providing a description of your image(s) for accessibility purposes! See here for a more detailed explanation and advice on how best to do this.)

Cute little fella, soon as he spotted me he lifted up and stayed like that, motionless, looking at me as if I were rather sus!

Absolutely cute critter you have in your yard there. Looks like the little dude has a delightful kingdom to roam around in ๐Ÿ‘‘.

That's adorable! Does anyone know what kind it is?

Garter snake. Probably a common ribbon snake but it could also be a Northwestern garter or one of several similar garters.

Does he think that you think that he is grass/greenery/(what is that, sedum?)? Silly snek.

Nice! Snakes are a sign of a healthy, chemical-free environment.

So cute! I've only seen snakes out and about a few times and it's always such a treat. I'd love to find a way to make my yard more hospitable for them, but I'm sadly surrounded on all sides with neighbors who spray their lawns and keep them all super short.
