And Instagram. Their website won’t even load on iOS, it’s just a blank white screen.

You know what will always be safe to send people? Fediverse links! Our shit actually works and won’t scare people away.

And tiktok. I can't see any of those things when it's a link.

I feel like Tiktok is one of the few that does work without an account.

It's a pain to unmute before it starts, you have a banner hiding the top and bottom screen so you only see half of the video. If it didn't work at least I would have an excuse to tell them not to send me links while being polite. (it works fine on pc though)

Or a screenshot. Please send me a screenshot instead of a link to whatever you’re going to show me.

This is a problem in instant messaging. In situations where I would have linked to a page containing an image, I've been in the habit of saving the image and sending it to the other person directly. It's faster. And I'll be honest I'm not writing attributions or credits when I do that unless they actually ask for the source. It would be better if everyone shared things by their actual original source, but like I said it's faster. Youtube is one of the only mainstream commercial sites still decent for this.

Always says I've hit the free article limit. Never read an article on it ever.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

Most news sites that give you "x free articles per month" use cookies to identify by how many you've read so simply opening in a private tab almost always resets the counter

Archive.is works, there's even a Firefox addon for it

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Archive.ph has you covered

Applies to Quora as well when I search something up to find an answer and Quora is the first result.

Girlfriend ain’t had period since she got pregat

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

You used to be able to bypass this by putting a ? At the end of the url, not sure if it still works, but I used to use that trick a lot

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

DuckDuckGo still lets you search, view and save images without going to the webpage.

Better privacy too.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

Yeah, Google should really derank Pinterest for their BS. It's ruined image search.

Remember when Elon was protecting the town square or some shit?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Nitter still works y'all...

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 years ago

Yeah but then I have to look at Twitter. Gross.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

NSFW links don'g anymore. My favorite artists are either stuck or moving elsewhere.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, I haven't visited Twitter since they added this. I have an account, I just can't be bothered to log in.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I literally cannot make an account, I've been trying for years, it doesn't accept any of my email addresses or phone numbers.. I think I'd have to make a gmail just to make a twitter

It applies to everything nowadays... except for the fediverse.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It's extremely common, but there are still a few sites left that won't force you to log in. YouTube is one such example, though of course it has its own problems too.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Yeah, except YT. Basically, that is the only one I know of.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don’t think YouTube could handle the burden.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I just think it's a matter of time. It will happen, sooner or later.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

We’ll see, I guess.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 years ago

I have an extension that redirects all tweets to nitter so I don't have to deal with that log in screen

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Does that still work after all of this?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They fixed it recently I believe.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Oh that is cool i will have to give it a try.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Honestly, it's on the same level as auto playing audio used to be for me. Insta-close.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I thought they undid that after a few days?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 years ago

Nope still does it for me. Good riddance honestly.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I thought they did too, but I just tried it and I got the login page. [Edit]: Maybe they just did it for Google and a few other big companies?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

It keeps happening intermittently for me. Sometimes it asks for a log in and sometimes allows me to see it.

I can never view the replies though.
