Hadn't read this one. This is the same guy I posted on my thread regarding Signal being a made in the USA app and, by extension, untrustworthy. Thank you for sharing!

Forgive me for being dense, but I don't understand the issue here - the projects listed, to my knowledge, are open source - anyone can take a look at their code to see if there's anything sketchy going on. So I guess I'm not seeing what everyone is worried about?

I got the feeling that it was more of the implication and duplicity when confronted about the funding - it makes things less clear cut.

I find the wash of anti-Signal/Open Whisper Systems news highly interesting but somewhat hopeless as all the other recommended options outside of XMPP seem to be more of the same or less robust in other (important to me) areas.

I still read them but am cautious of the sudden interest in pushing towards alternatives, I have however used Signal for awhile so am biased in my enjoyment of its ease of use and the timer options for self-destroying messages. I'm trying out Telegram as well just to see what the experience is like though due to all these articles but feel a push towards XMPP is more worthwhile (if you can manage to get your group on there).

Telegram has a few security concerns of it's own (http://courses.csail.mit.edu/6.857/2017/project/19.pdf), so don't fully understand the push towards it by other users except for the ease of use and saturation.

So that means Signal is no better than Tor.
