How exactly does the black line of death happen? (lemmy.world)

My screen protector was starting to bubble a week ago and slowly but surely lifted each day. Then when I brought it to Samsung to have the protector replaced, the black line showed up for the entire crease and touch wasn't working anymore.

So, basically if the protector pops out I'm screwed?
