"The Mediterranean is now completely outside all previous records. We have never measured this level of heat across the basin at any time of year. It is only July. We usually see the annual maximum in August.
The sea surface temperatures are widely in the high 20s Celsius across the basin and hitting 30-32C in places. I can't imagine what it feels like to swim in seas this warm.

Both maps 2 and 3 in this post are showing the same data. One shows the actual sea surface temperature and the other shows how much warmer 🔴 or cooler 🔵 it is at each location (for this time of year).
For example, 30°C in central areas is about 5°C warmer than average.
Take another grid point south of Iceland...
12°C sea surface temperature is about 2°C warmer than average for here. Being able to understand the difference between these maps goes a long way on social media these days."
