MODERATORS

Just by checking https://lemmy.ml/communities one can see the most popular communities of lemmy.ml. The plan here is to list all the alternatives for those from other instances. One can also suggest alternatives to be added here and I update this living document.

Beehaw seems to make a fair bit of effort in providing communities for most common topics and providing content in a non-toxic and non-politically polarized environment. Would recommend alternatives in either of the two recommended instances.

I'd be happy to take on a meme community or news or something like that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How about I create a meme community here and make you its moderator?

Make a post in [email protected] and then I promote you.

Nice list.

NRSK.no is a rather new Norwegian instance, and it looks like we're going for mostly Norwegian language posts. One community dedicated to content in English is Norway, where everybody is welcome to both subscribe and post.

Our Meta-community is Main.

Is https://heapoverflow.ml gone or just momentarily down? If gone it might be good to update this great posting 😁

https://lemmy.ml/c/fediverse

We're trying to find/make some on smaller instance than lemmy.ml or lemmygrad

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Nah, those separate communities have specific purposes and are just fine.

Anime --> [email protected]

Broken link? Doesn't work anymore. If you'll be replacing an alternative, I suggest not substituting it with [email protected] as that one's owned by an infamous subreddit hoarder on Reddit.

Some of these take an ethical step backwards. I see the pattern: lemmy.ml on the left-hand side, which is generally a good idea because lemmy.ml is centralized by disproportionate numbers. But when you have another quite large node on the RHS which is rendered strictly centralized by Cloudflare, you have a downgrade. E.g. the nodes lemmy.ca and lemmy.one should appear on the LHS, and for transparency I suggest tagging them with a lightening cloud (🌩).

Far too obviously this list has aged like milk as Lemmy has grown so huge and better tools are available for finding different communities.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I agree, but this list is pinned which made me think there’s an attempt to maintain it.

There is of course the venerable [email protected], but I generally post in the generalist communities to help grow them.

Looks like it's case sensitive

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Dope thank you

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I just started [email protected], the one sub from reddit I feel like I could run myself. Come join if you're a fan of the game/games! There were more that I was active in, I'm going to be trying to be even more of a contributor than I was on reddit, but I'll ramp up as I figure out lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Don't how up to date this is, but here are a few communities:

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

@QuentinCallaghan For libre culture I found !libre

It doesn't really seem active tho.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

heapoverflow.ml seems to be down.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Gotta remove it.

/r/Reddit411 and /r/411 -> [email protected]

/r/wowthissubexists -> [email protected]

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

i wouldn't recommend anything from mander.xyz, it's a freezepeach instance

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Just by looking at the instance's posts, it doesn't look like it. I however remember it becoming a spam haven at one point.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

it federates indiscriminately, including with the far-right wolfballs and the Marxist-Leninist lemmygrad

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I could speculate about this endlessly. Regardless, [email protected], what is your opinion regarding this?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why would a science / nature instance block? My assumption is it would be open to anyone if posts were on topic, and there were no dodgy posts. Moderation might need to be more on point.

C/monkey pox has been hit with some antivax action before

Once one of these get big enough, not a bad idea to make those on other instances. In case the instance goes down, admin goes rogue etc.
