MODERATORS
mostly because being a moderator to many communities may eventually become alot of work.
i think it's noteworthy that communities should ideally be kept alive and active. maintained on an ocassional basis. and perhaps some outside advocacy/publicity on the net.
more will be created in time. it's also about what might be popular with the existing community.
it's hard to think of good possible replicas off the top of my head. if anyone does.. go ahead and make it.
totally unique communities could be interesting too because they don't suffer from brain drain to one or two giant forums.
i'd like to see a community dedicated to shoutouts for discovering new, interesting, or obscure communities. pretty much c/announcements.

Lemmy communities? You can just browse them on the corresponding tab⦠Or did you mean communities in general?
yeah, you can browse all the lemmy communities.. but it's time consuming and tedious to go through all of them.
No real active communities per se, I visit some mostly tech channels on freenode and have invidious channels and random blogs feed into an rss reader.

I tend to like the various programming language and framework subreddits on Reddit. I find them more approachable than StackOverflow for asking questions, and I enjoy discussing the programming things I use. They do exist on Lemmy, but almost all of them are too small to really be helpful for discussions or answering questions.

Kotlin and Rust currently, and I actually mod both communities on .ml and do try participate in discussions :)
i know why rust is popular but may i ask what you like about kotlin?
I find it easy to code in, with a good balance between object oriented and functional paradigms. It also has a large open source library since it works on the JVM.
The Fediverse e.g. Mastodon, specifically people from fosstodon.org and social.linux.pizza
yeah, I also like layer8.space for the IT professionals and techs there. Lots of privacy-focused talk and background information on security issues sometimes way before they hit twitter.
A few subreddits. For some a corresponding community exists but is practically inactive. For example [email protected] and r/Zettelkasten.
I realized that I mostly subscribe to subreddits which are full of discussions not link sharing. Those are harder to replicate because you cannot just post reddit submissions here. At least, it would be weird to post other peoples questions/opinions. For example, r/bodyweightfitness.
Lemmy just lacks that mass of people to establish the niche communities of reddit here. Especially the OSS and programming related ones.
Mine are:
- MeWe - have amassive community there focussing just on tech.
- Secure Scuttlebutt - blogging
- Mastodon - a lot more engagement than on my Twitter account.
I like to see things from HackerNews, it's hard to see all the discussion there without a funcionality like Chat, but it worthy itself.
Fosstodon, a Mastodon instance and a couple of chat groups on Movim/XMPP. All the interest I can think of are already covered here on Lemmy :D.
