From what I know, Friendica, Hubzilla and Mobilizon already have groups, Pleroma is planning. Am I missing any other potential candidate to eventually federate with Lemmy?

Smithereen has groups (https://github.com/grishka/Smithereen). It's still wip, but the creator posts frequent updates on his account @[email protected].

I've been following him for a while, so if anything interesting maybe I'll make another post.

The Nextcloud social app is discussing it, but general development there is slow.

AFAIK there are no groups, just a single feed. Do they have plans to implement?

Ah, sorry. I thought sub-littrs were planned. Didn't really look into it.

But that feed would also use the Group actor from Activitypub, no?

Looked through the Littr code, seems Group is rather not in use, but somewhat present in the codebase. I'm not a Go developer anyway.

That looks cool! Are there any instances running it rn?

Edit: NVM: found one: https://littr.me/self

Matrix has groups. Previously just group chats, but some folks are building a twitter-like social network feed on the Matrix platform recently as well and I suspect there will be overlap.

Not exactly the ActivityPub stuff, though very interesting. It's Cerulean, see https://matrix.org/blog/2020/12/18/introducing-cerulean. Very alpha stage for now.
