I mean, Song 2 by Blur.

Made to make fun of grunge and instead made a banger of a grunge-ish song.

I'll see if I can count to 10

One Week - Barenaked Ladies

Two Worlds Apart - Little Sims

Three Little Birds - Bob Marley

Four Out of Five - Arctic Monkeys (two for one)

Six Blade Knife - Dire Straits

Seven Nation Army - White Stripes

Eight Miles High - The Byrd's

N95 - Kendrick Lamar (couldn't think of a better "9" song)

Ten Years Gone - Led Zeppelin

And another excellent song from the same album: Smashing Pumpkins - Thirty-Three

Grizzly Bear β€œTwo Weeks”

Bright Eyes β€œFour Winds”

Here’s 15 songs with numbers in order for our 15th anniversary! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7o3o0pqUg0i9mSqq6PrA59?si=RY43pXFcR-K_JMvxgO9dBg

3's & 7's by Queens of the Stone Age

[–] Waluigi@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Forty Six & 2 - Tool

Sixteen Saltines - Jack White

Eighties - Killing Joke

O.N.E. - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

The Four Horsemen - Aphrodite's Child

I have a few more songs with one in it but I don't think they mean it as a number, like "We are One" by Buckethead feat. Serj Tankian (very interesting music video)

Bonus tracks:
Infected Mushroom - 9%
Infected Mushroom & Matisyahu - One Day
Ooh, and also Infected Mushroom - After 1000 Years

E: yes there is a theme, my autistic brain found something it likes and we're sticking to it lol (I do enjoy loads of other music, but if I need to choose to put something on, it'll always be IM)

I’m not the first person to post 2112, am I?

[–] kvn@midwest.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I thought about it. It's an absolutely epic and essential song for any classic rock or prog fan. But I felt that it fell outside of alternative

[–] CarlsIII@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Oh, oops, I misread the title

[–] w2tpmf@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm surprised no one has said "One". I guess Metallica's global fame is starting to fade.

[–] ren@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Probably the only Metallica song I ever liked - got to be coming up on nearly 40 years old at this point, eh?

[–] kvn@midwest.social 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The first thing that came to mind is

15 Step - Radiohead

A couple others that came to mind that people might not know.

5 years time - Noah and the Whale

1878 - The Dear Hunter

Thirteen Hours - Andy Shauf

[–] Oweneds@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Speaking of Andy Shauf, have you listened to Foxwarren?

[–] kvn@midwest.social 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have! I do like them too but not as much as Andy Shauf's solo stuff

[–] Oweneds@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I love the Foxwarren album but have only listened to pockets of Andy's stuff. Any recommendation of where to jump in?

[–] kvn@midwest.social 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The Neon Skyline is my favorite of his and also the first album I heard from him. The Party is also pretty good. Both are concept albums so I would recommend listening to them straight through.

[–] Oweneds@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Thanks, will give them a go!

17 Crimes -AFI

25 or 6 to 4 -Chicago

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

oh man you got me with chicago. that bass.

[–] FlanFlinger@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Quite a good cover version of that was done by Bruce Foxton , former bassist from The Jam, only made it as far as a B side though.

[–] nhombrenovalido@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

That was pretty decent, thanks for the rec

[–] AcornCarnage@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Blind Melon - Three is a Magic Number - surprised this didn't get mentioned sooner.

Elliott Smith - Thirteen - Sure, I could have gone with a Smith original, but I love this version of Thirteen.

[–] dr_scientist@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Someone beat me to Four Winds but ...

40' - Franz Ferdinand

504 - Old 97s

1970 In Aspic - Robyn Hitchcock

2 Time - Architecture in Helsinki

and an old number-based favourite:

88 Lines About 44 Women - The Nails
